Future stars (continued)

The photo catches Vinnie Becker (front, third from
left) before he decamped to ‘complete his rugby
education’ at Mungret. He is cited in on-line
discussions as ‘the fastest player ever in Irish rugby’.
The Lansdowne Rugby Club website refers to his
‘lightning pace’; affectionately known as the ‘red
rocket’ he represented Ireland in the 100 metres as a
member of the Crusaders between 1968 and 1976.
His stock-in-trade was to score tries from well inside
his own half.

A proud moment for Gonzaga: Becker and Ensor line
