One of the lady teachers who worked in both senior
and junior schools was Marilyn Hurley Bimstein.

Farquharson SJ, Prep School Prefect of Studies from 1975 – 1983

Marilyn Bimstein will be remembered for her
work with choirs in the cold and draughty
environment of the old stage – in use as a classroom
until the ‘block of eight’ made it redundant – and for
her inventive teaching of English. Apart from the
introduction of a very modern reading list for younger
classes, she introduced students to the nature of
advertising – ‘Glittering Generalities’ – and to the art
of haiku. A specimen of the attempts at this genre by
the Class of 1980 (then S.2 and 2A) appears on the
following page.
