In February 2014 Denis Bergin (’76) wrote to the
archivist: There was a team prior to the establishment of
Gonzaga chess in 1976. Myself, Rod O’Hanlon and Colm de
Bhaldraithe (all 1976) were boards 1,2,3.We did play
outside of the school in competition but I cannot remember
the details; I think we won our section in 1976.
